What is number porting?
Number porting is the process of moving an existing phone number from one communications provider and transferring it to another.
We can transfer almost any number including BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Virgin Media, both Geographic starting 01 and/or 02, as well as Non-Geographic 03 and/or 08 etc. onto our service.
Please note: In the case of landline numbers, when you port your number to us your line will cease on the day of the transfer. If that line also had a broadband service on it, it will also cease.
Fax and other signle lines are not ported unless associated with main billing number.
If redcare (an additional Fire/Intruder Alarm Security Monitoring Service) is on the line this needs to be ceased, and the order completed, before you start the porting process. If needed you could move it to a different line
Check that your number is portable
To start the process, you need to ensure that your number is portable.
Redcentric can help you test your number for portability. If the results come back saying that your number is eligible for porting, you can continue with the next steps.
It’s important to check your contract before you start porting to make sure you’re not obligated to stay with the company for a certain period of time. This reduces any risk of having to pay a fee or penalty if you terminate your contract early.
Note: DON’T cancel your contract until your business number has been successfully ported. If you cancel it before this is done, you might lose the number.
What We Will Need From You
A completed Customer Letter of Authority (CLoA)
Copy of your telephone bill showing your name, address and telephone number (so we have proof it belongs to you).
Additional lines
Emergency line – bypass line or additional line for outbound calling (not Redcare)
Fax Lines, Card Machine, Franking Machine
Tannoy – won’t be supported unless standalone
Process
Number porting takes around 2 weeks to be completed on average, but it can vary between 7 to 30 days depending on the type of line you have
Downtime and service disruption during the porting process
Most porting activities complete within 15-30 minutes, but up to 3hours. With possible call disruptions
