Apple Intelligence
If Apple Intelligence is on, you can turn it off and lose access to access the latest features across iOS 26. Go to the Settings app, tap Apple Intelligence & Siri, then do one of the following:
- Tap the button next to Apple Intelligence.
- Tap Turn off Apple Intelligence.
Screen or silence unknown numbers
Call Screening automatically answers calls from unknown numbers without interrupting you. Once the caller shares their name and reason for their call, your iPhone rings and shares their response so you can decide if you want to pick up. You can also choose to silence calls from unknown callers and send them directly to voicemail.
Go to the Settings app on your iPhone.
Tap Apps, then tap Phone.
Choose one of the following:
- Never:Call Screening is turned off and your iPhone will ring when you receive a call from an unsaved number.
- Ask Reason for Calling:Calls from unknown numbers will be asked for more information before iPhone rings.
- Silence:Calls from unsaved numbers will be silenced, sent to voicemail, and appear in the Recent list.
Live Voicemail
When Live Voicemail is on and a caller is sent to voicemail, your iPhone displays a transcription of the caller’s voicemail as they speak. (Calling and data rates may apply.) The caller won’t be able to hear you and you won’t be able to hear them unless you choose to answer the call. To stop the incoming voicemail without answering or blocking the call, tap Stop.
If your iPhone is turned off or is out of your carrier network’s range, the call is sent to carrier voicemail, if available.
If you have Silence Unknown Callers turned on, unknown numbers go directly to Live Voicemail without ringing you first. Calls identified as spam by your carrier don’t go through Live Voicemail and are instead instantly declined.
- Go to the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap Apps, then tap Phone.
- Turn off Live Voicemail.
Do Not Disturb
Do Not Disturb is a Focus option in iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and later that silences calls, alerts, and notifications. When it’s on, the Do Not Disturb icon appears in the status bar and on your Lock Screen.
Before you begin
Update your iPhone or iPad to the latest iOS or iPadOS.
Turn Do Not Disturb off using Control Centre
- Open Control Centre:
- On iPhone X and later, and iPad, swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen.
- On iPhone SE, and iPhone 8 and earlier, swipe up from the bottom edge of your screen.
- Directly tap the Do Not Disturb icon on the Focus button.
If the icon colour dims and the button text changes to “Focus,” Do Not Disturb has been turned off.
If you don’t see Do Not Disturb in the Focus button but another Focus option (Personal, Work, Sleep, Reduce Interruptions, or Driving), tap its icon to turn it off. Other Focus options can also prevent you from receiving calls, alerts, and notifications
If Do Not Disturb turns back on automatically
Do Not Disturb may be scheduled to turn on at certain times:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Focus.
- Tap Do Not Disturb.
- Scroll down to Set a Schedule.
- Check for any active schedules to turn off.
Turn Do Not Disturb on or off using the Focus menu
- Open Control Centre:
- On iPhone X and later, and iPad, swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen.
- On iPhone SE, and iPhone 8 and earlier, swipe up from the bottom edge of your screen.
- Tap and hold the button showing either Focus, Do Not Disturb, or another Focus option (Personal, Work, Sleep, Reduce Interruptions, or Driving).
- Tap Do Not Disturb in the menu.
You can also ask Siri to turn Do Not Disturb on or off.
If you use Share Across Devices in your Focus settings, a notification that Do Not Disturb is on or off will appear on your other Apple devices.
Voice & Data Settings
Choose how your iPhone uses the 5G network, which can affect battery life.
- 5G Auto: Enables Smart Data mode. When 5G speeds don’t provide a noticeably better experience, your iPhone automatically switches to LTE, saving battery life.
- The 5G icon appears based on the configuration of the carrier network, and in rare cases, may appear even when 5G coverage isn’t available.
- 5G On: Always uses 5G network when it’s available. This might reduce battery life.
- LTE: Uses only LTE network, even when 5G is available.
Additional settings such as 5G Standalone and Voice Over 5G Standalone may be available in your market. For more information, contact your network provider.
Data Mode
- Allow More Data on 5G: Enables higher data-usage features for apps and system tasks. These include higher-quality FaceTime, high-definition content on Apple TV, Apple Music songs and videos, iOS updates over cellular, and automatic iCloud backups.
- With this setting, your iPhone can automatically use 5G instead of Wi-Fi when Wi-Fi connectivity is slow or insecure on a network you visit occasionally.
- To turn this feature off and on for a certain network, open the Settings app and tap Wi-Fi. Tap the info button next to the Wi-Fi network and tap Use Wi-Fi for Internet.
- This setting also allows third-party apps to use more cellular data for enhanced experiences.
- This is the default setting with some unlimited-data plans, depending on your carrier.
- This setting uses more cellular data.
- Standard: Allows automatic updates and background tasks on cellular and uses standard quality settings for video and FaceTime. This is generally the default mode.
- Low Data Mode: Helps reduce Wi-Fi and cellular-data usage by pausing automatic updates and background tasks.
